HTC and SE Androids Launch Early

T-Mobile has announced that it is now offering the XPERIA X10 and the HTC Desire to clients on its website. The HTC Desire will ship out after 7 days of ordering and the XPERIA X10 will be available after 10 days.

Both smart phones have been long anticipated by the Android community since they were announced last year.

The XPERIA X10 was originally announced as the Rachael before SE confirmed its name and specs. The device was one of the first Android phones to be confirmed running on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Sony has spared no time in preparing other Android devices, during the Mobile World Congress where they showed off the X10, they also featured two new Android smart phones; the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro.  The two 600MHz smart phones will be SE’s offering to the mid range market.

Back to the XPERIA X10, this high end device will come with a 4 inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The device also has an 8 mega pixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and geo-tagging. This high end device comes in a classic black finish though an exclusive white version has been announced for Orange Mobile.

The HTC Desire was part of the leaked 2010 roadmap for the Taiwanese company. The list of devices showed off not only the Desire, but also the upcoming Legend as well. The phone was finally shown off by HTC at Barcelona last month.

Running on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, this Android device really works as an alternative to the Nexus One. Not only do the two phones share the same manufacturer, but their specifications are also similar as well. Aside from the 1GHz CPU, both devices come with 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screens and 5 mega pixel camera.

Android Devices from MWC

AndroidWindows Phone 7 may have stolen the show at the Mobile World Congress, but that still leaves plenty of other impressive devices that deserve time in the spotlight. No amount of media exposure has been missing for the devices listed below, but for a quick second look at some impressive Android smart phones, try the following:

It comes as to no surprise that our lineup of Android smart phones starts out with the HTC Desire. The device was originally considered for a basis for the Nexus One and carried the name Bravo. Sunday saw a new name and a slight new look for the device. The phone continues to carry a 3.7 inch AMOLED touch screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a 5 mega pixel camera with the ability to record videos on 720p D1. Leaked pages from Amazon Germany state that the phone is only 419 Euros.

Another Android smart phone from HTC is the Legend. This device is expected to be the successor to the HTC Hero. The phone will have a 3.2 inch AMOLED touch screen, a 5 mega pixel camera and a Qualcomm 600 MHz processor. The device has been confirmed for Netherlands through the KPN site.

Sony Ericsson has its own Android phones as well. The XPERIA X10 is one of the high end smart phones coming out soon with its 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and 4 inch touch screen. The device will have two follow up phones, the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro. As one might guess from the names, the X10 Mini is a bit sized version of the X10 and the Pro is a second version of the X10 Mini but comes with a physical keyboard.

Giving The Android A Try With The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be Sony Ericsson’s first foray into Android technology. They have created a feature-rich phone which has very impressive specs. Androids are becoming more and more popular with many mobile phone manufactures interested in incorporating its technology into their phones.

The Xperia X10 is a pretty impressive mobile phone. It has a large display WVGA display screen at 4 inches. The resolution is 480×854 pixels. It shows more then 65,000 colors and is a capacitive touch screen. The 65k colors is a bit paltry especially for this nice of a smartphone. Even still, the size of the display is really nice and the resolution is still decent.  It utilizes a 1500 mAh battery.

The phone’s digital camera is 8.1 megapixels which is of incredible high quality. It gives users the ability to stabilize the images they capture on the phone and also has auto-focus abilities, LED flash geo-tagging support, smile detection, facial recognition and digital zoom. Individuals will also be able to record video.

The Xperia X10 comes with a lot of memory at 1GB. More can be added via the phone’s microSD slot. The phone also comes with Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. It runs on an Android 1.6 OS.

Overall, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 looks like it is going to be a very good phone. It has an impressive amount of features including its feature-rich 8.1 megapixel digital camera and video recording capabilities. Its screen is large at 4 inches and it has WiFi and Bluetooth. It is Sony Ericsson’s first attempt at incorporating Android technology in its phones and it looks like they wanted to go all out. They have designed and manufactured a pretty impressive mobile phone that has generated a ton of interest because it is the company’s first Android Smartphone. People will be looking to see if it becomes a success or if it will crash and burn.

Nokia N900 or Sony Ericsson Xperia X10?

Nokia N900Christmas is just around the corner and will come and go soon enough, making way for a new year of broken resolutions and bad weather. But despite the bleak winter months ahead 2010 promises to be a good year for mobile phones with some truly jaw-dropping handsets set for release in the first few months alone. Two of the most hotly anticipated phones set for release in early 2010 are the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the Nokia N900.

The Nokia N900 will see a move away from Symbian by Nokia, and some have heralded it as the dawn of a new era as the Finnish company moves to a far superior and advanced OS: Maemo. Unfortunately Nokia has revealed that the N900 will be the only Maemo phone that they will release next year and that Symbian is very much still part of their business plan. While some have taken this as bad news, it actually makes the N900 all the more special.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 on the other hand, will make use of the highly popular and already well established Android and will be the first phone to combine this with the speed and power of a 1GHz Snapdragon. With Android 2.0 Eclair available it is a shame that Sony Ericsson has opted for the older 1.6 Donut edition. Despite this, Sony Ericsson has worked wonders with the X10 through the use of their own Nexus interface that takes the whole Android experience up a level. Combined into this interface are Sony Ericsson’s new Mediascape and Timescape features. Timescape combines information from a wide range of sources such as messages, emails and social networking sites to provide a more intuitive interaction with your phone contacts, rather than having these services disjointed and unorganised.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10While there is a trend towards this sort of functionality among many phone manufacturers today, Mediascape will offer something new by attempting the same sort of thing with multimedia. Combining music and video from a range of sources such as PlayNow and YouTube, Mediascape should promise to revolutionise mobile phone entertainment.

As for Maemo; the Linux-based OS is raising eyebrows due to its groundbreaking web-oriented design. Phones making use of Maemo, which for the time being will unfortunately only be the N900, should completely change the way in which people access online content on their phones. With multi-tasking screens and a novel new browser the N900 is certainly one for the web surfers.

For anyone holding out for buying a new touchscreen phone in the New Year the choice is a tough one, but certainly falls between these two phones. While the N900 will offer exceptional web browsing the Xperia X10 will offer a better all round experience and that’s probably the deciding factor, for me at least.

Almost Disappointed: The XPERIA X10

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10I am a fan of Sony Ericsson products. Well, I’m not really a fan of Ericsson. I’m a fan of Sony. Either way, when the entire mobile phone community listened to Sony Ericsson’s announcement that the XPERIA X2 would be their last Windows Mobile based device, everyone started having their own speculations. Now that we have the truth about the XPERIA X10 and what operating system it will use, I constantly hear to collective sigh of disappointment from many people. I would be lying if I claimed that I was not excited at the prospect of the Google Android 2.0 Éclair running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz processor.

Well, almost everyone expected that to be the case. The fact that Motorola was releasing a mobile phone with Éclair also helped fuel the rumors even more. But in the end, the truth of the matter is that the XPERIA X10 will be running Android 1.6 Donut. Now people are disappointed, after all, there are a lot of expectations. Still, when you think about it, the news is not so bad. Donut may not be the latest Android OS, but it is a stable well made operating system and it would still make good use of the Snapdragon processor.

Maybe it’s just me being too optimistic, but we could also hope that the X10 will, have an upgradeable OS. The only counter argument to this notion would be that if you could run Éclair on the device in the first place, why not make it the default OS? The answer maybe in the fact that Sony would prefer an OS that is already tried and tested as compared to one that is new but not fully explored. Looking back, Sony Ericsson did abandon Windows Mobile for its many development flaws and wanted to get something far more reliable.
