October will See the Launch of Windows Phone 7

Microsoft’s new mobile platform is due to arrive on October and from the looks of it, several handsets will be ready by that time.

It is already known that the LG Panther has been ready for the past few months. A mock version of the device has already been seen as early as March while what seems to be final version of the smart phone has been seen in images in the recent weeks. And the Korean manufacturer is not the only one making a WP7 device. Taiwan based HTC has dropped two names, the Mozart and the Mondrian as WP7 handsets, though no details were given if the two phones were indeed separate or this is simply one device with two nicknames. Sony Ericsson’s name has also been added to the list with the announcement of the SE Jolie.

The new operating system from Microsoft focuses heavily on general users. While the older Windows Mobile operating system is a more business-centric mobile platform, the WP7 leans towards media playback, internet access, social networking, games and general functionality.

Considering the most recent demonstrations of the operating system, WP7 has proven to be a well composed OS, with various functions leading and linking towards each other. Users can jump from the map to the contact list to the calendar if the user has associated linked entries for the various contents.

In the above trail, a map could potentially show the addresses of nearby contacts that when clicked, can bring up the details of the individual. From there, a user can set a schedule to visit, call or simple email the contact and have the task marked on the calendar. All of these processes are done directly, without having to go back to the home screen even once.

Expect to see more updates regarding Windows Phone 7 as October approaches.

LG BL40 Chocolate. Lipsmacking

Described as a “pretty supernatural being rising out of your pockets”, we have to wonder if the LG BL40 has gone too far. If it’s just a little bit too pretty. A little bit too sleek. The touchscreen a touch too large. Fair enough Toshiba smacked us around the head with the 4.1-inch screened TG01 recently, but the 4-inch LG BL40 Chocolate takes “look-at-me” look to a whole new level. Which is not an entirely bad thing, of course. If that’s the kind of reaction you want. Us? We’d be terrified of putting this thing in our pocket. Actually, we’d be slightly worried about fitting it in there in the first place. But given the amount of gravel, keys, change and other detritus stuffed into our jeans, we’d feel bad about putting this space-age object in there. It’d be like parking a Ferrari in a tiny garage filled with rusty watering cans and rotten potatoes. Not right, basically.

We don’t doubt this thing is going to find a very appreciative audience for these kinds of LG BL40 Chocolate deals. The BL40 is an absolute stonker of phone in many, many respects, even away from that VGA / 21:9 / etc etc. screen it’s got on board. With all the GPS, Wi-Fi, HSDPA and customisable options you’d expect from the very best phones out there, there’s simply nothing that this thing lacks. Apart from… well… modesty. And fair enough, not everyone wants there phone to be modest or simple. Some like to accessorise as much with their phone as they do with their clothes. If you feel that might well be you, then start wetting your lips: this thing’s due out in a couple of months. Check out this LG BL40 review, or have a look at the video below.

August Mobile phone bargain contracts

So the summer is coming to an end, yet we seem to be enjoying some rare sunshine here in the UK. To celebrate this rarity we have decided to put together a list of our 8 favourite mobile phones and the best deals that are available with them. We might make this a regular feature, it just depends how useful you guys think it is. So let’s get started.
1. Nokia N97 deals – The hottest Nokia mobile phone out there right now. Yes it has a few problems, but nothing a few firmware updates will sort out. You can get a free ipod shuffle on T-Mobile with 800 minutes and unlimited texts for under £40.00 per month.
2. HTC Hero deals – Android is the way forward and the HTC Hero is the best of the lot. At £15 per month cheaper than the N97 it is worthy of the number 2 spot. You do only get 400 minutes per month though.
3. HTC Touch diamond 2 deals – much improved from the original Diamond, we really like the interface on this phone. £30.00 per month on O2 is the one to beat here, with 400 minutes and 500 texts.
4. Sony W995 deals – The best Sony Ericsson phone available in the market at the moment. You get music, camera and a sleek design all rolled into one. And for a little of £21.00 per month on Orange we think that it is a bargain.
5. Blackberry 8520 deals -No list would be complete without a Blackberry. The new 8520 is a slimmer sleeker version of the older models and we are very impressed with it. There is a deal with Orange offering £170 cashback on a £35.00 per month deal, so now is the time to grab this one whilst its cheap.
6. Nokia 5530 deals – Wow this is a cheap mobile phone. Vodafone are offering this one with 600 minutes and unlimited texts for just £21.00 per month, an absolute bargain.
7. Samsung Jet deals – The new addition to Android community has been well received and if you are looking for an alternative to HTC this one needs to be considered. Grab it O2 for £29.35 per month on O2 or £21.20 on Orange if you don’t mind cashback deals.
8. Nokia N86 deals – Gamers delight in this fabulous handset. Yes there are cheaper Nokia phones out there, but if you like to game then this one is a must. Vodafone are offering it for £31.00 with 600 minutes unlimited texts.
So there you have it our run down of the best mobile phones with the best deals. It is probably worth bearing in mind that these offer change quickly so grab them whilst they are still around.

LG GW300. Good time happy phone

You should count yourselves very lucky, you know, that this blog is so coherent. Not in terms of, say, most of literature, of course. But in comparison to a huge heap of steaming blogs out there, you should feel pretty glad you found this one. During our research for the LG GW300, for example, we found some absolute gems. It might interest you to learn that, “the device aims at the users who dote of messaging services, whether for business, entertainment or leisure pass time activities.”

So there we are then. Does that help? Do you now understand what the LG GW300 is all about. Are you one who dotes on messaging services?

Let us translate for you instead: this thing has just about nothing going for it apart from the QWERTY keyboard stuck to it, and the fact that it’s going to be crazy cheap. But before you stop reading, consider that this is the very point. Because those who ‘dote’ on things like SMS, emails and status updates, are of course the younger folk out there (that’s according to GSM Arena and most other more articulate sites out there), and they are going to dote over the price tag of this thing big time. They won’t care about the lack of just about everything else (GPS, 3G, WiFI, etc.), they’ll just be glad their thumbs get to tappety-tap on a proper keyboard for the price of a couple of weeks pocket money. So there we have it. In a slightly more understandable nutshell than the one quoted above. Check out this LG GW300 review if you want even more non-crazy English opinions on this thing.

LG GC990 Louvre. Welcome to rumour town

Well well well, would you look at this… a genuine, no messing, real as real can be rumour, straight from us to you. This isn’t one of those fake rumours either. One of those, oohhh, have you heard about this phone that Sony Ericsson have just started whispering about whilst at the same time launching a multi-million pound campaign. Oh no, this is a rumour that comes with only two grainy photos, no video, and even an official denial of sorts. That’s right, because the LG Louvre is not even confirmed as definitely even being an actual phone yet, still as it is in concept stage, as this LG suit warbled on recently: “The LG Louvre GC990 is a great example of the type of mobile technology innovation LG is developing. This is a concept model only however, and as such there are no confirmed plans to bring it to market. As we have further details on our camera-phone portfolio or other mobiles, LG will provide information on where and when they will be available to consumers.”

So, will it get released and join the rank of LG mobile phones? Course it will, especially seeing as how gullible blogging types like us are swooning over this thing with more drool than a sour sweet tasting convention. Because this is the first of the so-called (by us) supercameraphones that actually looks like it might be a super cameraphone. Others (the Satio, one of the Omnias with lots of numbers in its title that we forget) may have had 12 megapixels or the ability to record HD video too, but the GC990 manages both. And judging by the look of the back of the thing (get image searching if you don’t believe us) it also looks more like a camera than anything else we’ve ever seen.

So there we have it… if this thing wasn’t so new, in fact, we’d be pointing you towards a video to watch, but there’s nothing even out there, apart from this LG Louvre review.

The LG GT505. Exclusive?

Someone’s trying to pull a fast one here, and we’re not impressed! So, if you’ll please don your Sherlock Holmes cap, the facts are:

The LG LG GT505 is being released any day now, “exclusively” on the Orange network
The LG GT500 is being released any day now, “exclusively” on the T-Mobile network

All well and good you think. Well, not really. Because aside from a 30-day trial to something called WisePilot that you get with the LG GT505, there is no difference between the two. Not a megapixel, gram, inch or Bluetooth between ‘em. Not a jot. Which leaves us wondering why the GT505 needs to exist separately from the GT500 at all. Might it be to do with those two “exclusively” shaped words up there? Ha, now that would just be plain cynical to suggest, and we wouldn’t dare do it. You can think what you like, however.

Don’t get us wrong, the GT505 (just like the GT500, funnily enough) is a 3G enabled, GPS handling, really rather decent camera carrying little thing that we think will do a satisfactory job for those not wanting to splash out wads of cash for a high end smart phone. We just wish LG hadn’t tried to hoodwink us with this ridiculous “exclusive” nonsense. Hey ho, such is the world. Read a LG GT505 review here. And appreciate the fact that we were kind enough to at least find a different picture for you from the GT500 blog post below.

LG GW520. Crass market

Sometimes it’s too easy to be a snob. Especially when it comes to phones. What’s that, you’re phone has only a mere 3 megapixels? Hah, well mine has 8 whole megapixels! And your’s it made entirely of plastic? Kneel before the brushed aluminium of my smartphone. Etc. and so on.

And we could easily be snobbish about the GW520. 3MP camera. Pretty good but not groundbreaking internet speeds. Pretty damned ugly with that slide-out QWERTY keyboard… But then LG are making no pretence that this is anything but a mid-range phone. They’re not trying to do a Blackberry, or dance the Apple. It’s a phone that offer more than a hell of a lot of phones out there, and does so at a price that’s more than reasonable. It is, in fact, one of the cheapest phones to be offering full ‘push’ services (so that emails, social networking updates and so on are pushed up to your attention, rather than waiting passively until you go and discover them) we’ve ever come across.

The GW520 isn’t going to win any style awards, but nor are LG hoping it will, and nor should you be concerned that is doesn’t. You should buy the LG GW520 if you’re one of those constantly-typing messagers and emailers. Someone who’s going to be tapping away with glee on that bigger-than-most keyboards. And someone who’s going to appreciate those pretty nifty push features along with the money left in their wallet. Read a full LG GW520 review here for more details. And all being well, this will be out any day now on pretty much any contract provider you want.

LG GT500 (Puccini). Grave-robbing mediocrity

Whether Puccini, composer of such classic classical music as that in Tosca and Madame Butterfly, would have been pleased to have his name stuck onto the side of a phone is a matter that can’t be settled. Well, we’re willing to stick our neck out and say that, actually, there’s probably a fair chance he didn’t want it used in any way shape or form with any phone. But he probably would have had even more of an issue with it if he’d have known which phone it was going to be. It’s not that the LG GT500 Puccini is a bad phone, far from it. It’s just nothing all that special. A rundown of the stats kind of proves that:

  • 3.0″ 400 x 240 pixel touchscreen
  • 12mm thick
  • 86 grams
  • EDGE technology for mobile-broadband type speeds
  • HSDPA networking
  • GPS
  • Bluetooth
  • Comprehensive email support
  • Wide variety of different media formats catered for
  • 5MP camera

See. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just that it’s nothing all that special. In saying that though, we don’t doubt for a second a fair number of people are going to find a special place for the LG GT500 Puccini in their hearts. Especially once the prices are announced on its imminent release. There’s a LG Puccini review here. And the LG GT500 Puccini will be released any day now, on T-Mobile exclusively.
