Plenty of Excitement Surround Project JAL

While it may sound like some top secret plan to create super weapons, Project JAL is actually Orange Mobile’s new plan to develop an Android smart phone that carries their brand. Overall, the new handset design is not bad, it looks a lot like the ZTE Blade –for good reason too; apparently the phone will be manufactured by ZTE.

In terms of specs, the Project JAL: handset will definitely be a low end device. The most important factor is that the phone still sports very practical specs. If all you need to have is a decent smart phone that comes with all the basic features but is still friendly to the budget, then this is going to be a great start.

Of course, price is going to be the big determining factor here. And with estimates on the handset ranging from 100 to only 150 GBP, it is likely that this phone will get plenty of basic 2G users to shift up to 3G.

The screen is a nice big 3.5 inch OLED display –which is already quite big for this kind of handset. No QWERTY keyboard means that the virtual touch screen keyboard will be the main user interface and of course, the screen follows WGA standards (this means viewing content on landscape mode is going to be quite a familiar experience for existing smart phone users).

Other features will include GPS (expect location based apps and features), Bluetooth, WiFi, and of course, access to the Android Market and possibly, Orange’s own app store as well.

Switching over to Orange Mobile may not be such a great plan for some, but for those who want to try out something new and are having their current contracts expire in the next few months, this is a great smart phone and network to switch to.

How the iPhone’s Lack of Security is Making the World More Secure

When it comes to information leaks, there is one handset that is incredibly leaky –so badly that one can even say that it is splashing information around where ever it goes, and people still love it: the Apple iPhone.

This may come as a surprise to most users of the Apple iPhone, but the device’s OS and hardware have been so badly designed in terms of security that users might as well be screaming to the world where they are and what they like to talk about.

One of the biggest problems about the iPhone is how much data it actually caches about the user. While some temporary data storages may take up a minimal amount of space, Apple is allocating plenty for the iPhone –and the phone is certainly keeping tabs about its users.

Obviously, this is something that most smart phone users would want to know, after all, data security is a major. But fortunately, the people taking advantage of the situation are not wicked, malicious identity thieves- but cops doing some hard research on plenty of documents for certain reports.

Police and law enforcement agencies are working hard observing and recording the logs of various suspected criminals and through the Apple’s weak security system, these men of the law are able to hunt down criminals. The iPhone can keep track of text messages that have been written in a span of (approximately) three months (thanks to what was supposed to be a typing aid feature). The device also keeps track of a handset’s last location with a quick GPS screenshot whenever the map feature is turned off.

Even uploaded geo tagged photographs can be used in investigations –which further goes to prove that many of these criminals are not even careful enough to learn how to get rid of such data and content.

GPS

GPS SatelliteThe GPS or Global Positioning System provides reliable information on positioning, navigation and timing. It is a US space-based radio-navigation system freely used by civilians all over the world.

The GPS provides accurate location and time information to any individual with a GPS receiver. Such information is available to an unlimited number of individuals without distractions caused by the weather. It is available anytime within the day covering all geographical locations all over the world.

The United States Department of Defense funds the operation of the GPS. Even with its availability to thousands of people in the civilian world, the GPS system was purposely designed for use and operation by the US military.

Satellite signals are specially coded and processed with the use of a GPS receiver. The receiver reads the position, time, and velocity. There are 4 GPS satellite signals that compute receiver positions in the 3 given dimensions. It is also able to provide additional information on time.

The three parts of the GPS system consists of control and monitoring stations on the planet, satellites orbiting the planet, and the GPS receiver in the possession of its users. The GPS receivers identify the signals broadcasted by the satellites positioned in the outer space. The three-dimensional location identified by the GPS pertains to the latitude, longitude, and altitude.

GPS handsets are readily available for purchase. Commercial retailers provide easy consumer access to the device. The benefits of these GPS receivers mainly revolve around its accuracy in locating precise locations so individuals can navigate to where they would like to go. It is useful in mobility and can function while the user is walking, biking, or driving. GPS also works on land, air, or water.

Transportation systems worldwide make wide use of the GPS. Navigation is attained for ground, aviation, as well as maritime transportation activities.

The GPS has also played a major role in emergency services. Its location and timing capacity appear to be very helpful in life-saving missions and activities.

Even everyday activities are influenced by the GPS. These activities include banking and mobile telecommunications. Farmers, inspectors, geologists and many other professionals perform their jobs more safely, efficiently, and precisely with the availability of the GPS signals, free and open to its users.
