DivX
DivX is a brand name of products developed by the company called DivX, Inc. The former name of the company is DivXNetworks, Inc. DivX Codec is a popular product by DivX, Inc. due to its ability to compress long video segments and convert them into smaller files without having to trade-off visual quality.
MPEG-4 Part 2 allows the DivX Codec to compress the videos. This result to good video quality matched with a good file size for improved utility. The DivX Codec is usually associated with ripping where video and audio files are transcoded and moved to a hard disk.
The DivX recently gained an expansion into the DivX 6. Such expansion has allowed the addition of a media container format to be compatible with simply a codec and a player.
