While a majority of mainstream mobile phone users have been consuming the pop phenomenon that is the iPhone, a relative newcomer is slowly making its way up – the hard way that is. With the HTC Desire, the Taiwan-based manufacturer is taking the more conventional path towards the consumer’s hearts – by coming up with a device that is not only all bark, but also has a lot of bite to go with it.

Let’s get things straight. We’re not claiming that the iPhone (in particular) doesn’t have the goods to back up the entire buzz that has and continues to surround it to this day. We actually believe otherwise as we consider it to be one of the greatest inventions of the modern age. However, we just think that the HTC Desire is a much better mobile phone. Why, might you ask? Well, we can give you two very good reasons.

Feature-Filled

The HTC Desire is definitely one of the most impressive Smartphones in the market simply because of its awesome set of features. For starters, its 3.7” AMOLED touch screen display delivers the most vivid image outputs at an amazing 480 x 800 pixels. It also has a cutting edge 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon for its processor which remains to be the most powerful in the market. And, there’s even an above-average 5-Megapixel snapper on board which can snap excellent quality photos. Last but not least, the Desire has the Google Android mobile operating system on board – enough said.

Value for Money

If that’s not impressive enough for you then maybe you should know that the HTC Desire retails at average price of £400. This means that at this considerably reasonable price, you’d be able to get all of the top-of-the-line features you’d expect from a Smartphone of this calibre. Or there are, of course, any number of great HTC Desire deals that’ll save you from having to make that one big expenditure. If you asked us, we’d rather go for the Desire than to spend a good 500 odd pounds for say, an iPhone 3GS.

Google’s Android is going to have trouble playing catch up to the already launched Apple iPhone 4 as the updates to several handsets has been announced to be delayed.

Originally, the first handset to have the new Froyo OS is the Google Nexus One, and it was expected that the HTC Desire (one of the best Android devices available) would also be getting a patch after a week. This did not push through and it appears that owners of the HTC made smart phone will have to wait for a while before an official 2.2 update gets released.

So far, the tale of the Android updates has been one of constant waiting and delays for many eager and excited users.

In terms of performance and capabilities, it is pretty hard to beat the Nexus One –featuring capabilities and add-ons that would make both casual and hardcore users happy, the Android OS has never been considered as lacking. But as for the release dates, Google has plenty of issues to deal with.

And the fact that when the updates do come out, they still suffer from compatibility issues. Fans would patiently wait for a delayed launch date if it meant that the final build will have fewer issues and no major compatibility problems. With the Android that is not the case.

For those who did not catch the reviews and coverage on the HTC Desire Android smart phone, here is a quick recap of the handset’s specs and figures. The phone comes with a nice big 3.7 inch AMOLED touch screen display, a 5 mega pixel camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz CPU, and of course, the Android 2.1 Éclair. The OS sports plenty of impressive Google features (such as Google Maps, Google Chat, Google Mail, Google Goggles, Street View, and others); it also uses the HTC Sense user interface.

The average mobile phone will last a person for about two years. After this time, the device is often replaced by a better handset for a wide variety of reasons. Some users simply prefer to own a new phone. Other handsets would have been exposed to wear and tear and in some cases, been damaged to a point that a replacement would be better. There is also the occasional case of the device being lost or stolen.

But what about having multiple handsets? Another good reason to have a spare mobile phone is for emergencies. Most families have emergency kits at home; these are usually packed with first aid kits, food rations, two way radios and other similar items. These days, it is also recommended to have a spare mobile phone as well (and an extra battery as well). While it would need to be charged regularly, having an extra mobile phone on hand could prove to be helpful in dire emergencies.

T-Mobile has announced that it is now offering the XPERIA X10 and the HTC Desire to clients on its website. The HTC Desire will ship out after 7 days of ordering and the XPERIA X10 will be available after 10 days.

Both smart phones have been long anticipated by the Android community since they were announced last year.

The XPERIA X10 was originally announced as the Rachael before SE confirmed its name and specs. The device was one of the first Android phones to be confirmed running on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Sony has spared no time in preparing other Android devices, during the Mobile World Congress where they showed off the X10, they also featured two new Android smart phones; the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro.  The two 600MHz smart phones will be SE’s offering to the mid range market.

Back to the XPERIA X10, this high end device will come with a 4 inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The device also has an 8 mega pixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and geo-tagging. This high end device comes in a classic black finish though an exclusive white version has been announced for Orange Mobile.

The HTC Desire was part of the leaked 2010 roadmap for the Taiwanese company. The list of devices showed off not only the Desire, but also the upcoming Legend as well. The phone was finally shown off by HTC at Barcelona last month.

Running on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, this Android device really works as an alternative to the Nexus One. Not only do the two phones share the same manufacturer, but their specifications are also similar as well. Aside from the 1GHz CPU, both devices come with 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screens and 5 mega pixel camera.

When March rolls over, Vodafone will be starting off an impressive lineup of Android smart phones.

The mobile network operator has already released the expected prices for the upcoming HTC Legend smart phone. They are currently offering the smart phone for as low as £2 (1.99) at a monthly tariff of £25 –it’s a great deal, though most might prefer to go for slightly more expensive deals with more free minutes.

The Legend was finally shown off by HTC at the previous Mobile World Congress. The device came out alongside the HTC Desire (previously known as the Bravo) and the HTC HD Mini. HTC’s Legend smart phone is considered to be the successor of the HTC Hero (also an Android smart phone) as it possesses similar specs. This smart phone stands out with its aluminum casing and sleek new look. It comes with a 3.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen and a 5 mega pixel camera. Speed will not be an issue with Qualcomm’s MSM 600 MHz CPU running the Legend.

Just like the HTC Desire, the Legend uses the HTC Sense user interface. It takes away a little from the Android experience, but since the Sense UI is still fun to use, the change is insignificant. Overall, the Legend is a great deal for mid range smart phones for those who are not willing to dish out the extra few hundred Pounds for the Desire.

The Legend will be coming out with the Desire this March and next April, Vodafone is expected to being offering the Google Nexus One. While the Legend and the Desire will be available right off the shelves, the Nexus One will still be limited to the Google store.

According to reports, it looks like HTC will be having its biggest marketing spend this year when they push the release of 4 different devices at the same time.

While we are never in the danger of being over saturated, this practically marks the first time we will be seeing so many significant devices coming from the Taiwan based mobile phone manufacturer.

Well, the mobile phone industry is no stranger to expensive and over the top budgets for marketing. Sony Ericsson did the exact same thing with the Satio –though that did not get good results, the Satio got suspended from sales and pull out of shelves due to firmware errors.

Anyway, the new HTC phones coming are as follows:

The HTC Desire is the penultimate HTC Android smart phone. This device served as the basis for the Nexus One. The stats alone tell the story, it comes with a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen, a 5 mega pixel camera with 720p D1 recording, and of course, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU.

Following the Desire is the HTC Legend. This phone is the successor of the highly successful Android smart phone, the HTC Hero. The Legend has a 3.2 inch AMOLED touch screen, a 5 mega pixel camera, a 600MHz Qualcomm processor and a spiffy aluminum casing.

HTC has also announced that it will be releasing the HTC HD Mini which will be using the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Maldives platform while the HTC Smart is a low end smart phone that is going to be an O2 exclusive device.

No word yet on exactly what kind of marketing we will be seeing, but since this is HTC’s biggest spend; expect to see major ad campaign for their upcoming products.

Sony Ericsson has its own Android phones as well. The XPERIA X10 is one of the high end smart phones coming out soon with its 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and 4 inch touch screen. The device will have two follow up phones, the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro. As one might guess from the names, the X10 Mini is a bit sized version of the X10 and the Pro is a second version of the X10 Mini but comes with a physical keyboard.
