Palm Pixi or Palm Pre – Which One is Better?
Palm Pixi and Palm Pre are sister smartphones really, with very little to separate them, yet there are a few differences that can prompt certain users to prefer one phone over the other. Both the phones are Palm webOS devices which is a new operating system platform designed for the Palm smartphones based on Linux. The advantages of webOS will equally be available in both the sets.
However, the main difference between Palm Pre and its younger sister Pixi is the design and dimensions. Palm Pre is wider and thicker than Palm Pixi, and Pixi is a little higher, which makes Pixi the slimmer of the two. Moreover, another fundamental difference in design is the keypad. Palm Pre comes with a slider keypad, which is why it is thicker than Palm Pixi, while Palm Pixi has a much smaller keypad beneath its screen, which is 2.63 inches as compared to the 3.1 inch screen of Palm Pre.
The idea about Palm Pixi is basically reducing the clutter on the phone for the user, which is why there are little buttons on the touch-screen as well. The same is true for Palm Pre, but it comes
with a heavy slider keyboard, making it bulkier than Palm Pixi.
For those who like to carry light phones and seek to enjoy all the benefits of a smartphone, while also having them light and slim, Palm Pixi would be an obvious choice, and especially those who are irritated by the slider keypad. However, Palm Pre has its own benefits and features a richer 24-bit color display as compared to the 16-bit display of Palm Pixi, and features a 3.0 mega pixel digital camera with extended depth of field, as compared to a 2.0 mega pixel camera of Palm Pixi. But maybe that is the cost Palm Pixi users will have to bear in exchange for a smaller size and the expected low price. Moreover, Palm Pre would be the obvious choice for those who cannot compromise on Wi-Fi connectivity.
Watch out for Palm Pixi contracts when they come out and see how they compare to Palm Pre contracts.
