Lenovo’s No Longer a Virgin
Lenovo just announced that it would be releasing its first mobile phone May of 2010 in China. For those who haven’t heard of the company, they are more well-known for manufacturing mobile computers. This will be their first foray into the mobile phone market. Their first effort appears to be a very good one. The specs on the Lenovo LePhone are very respectable, good even. It has a roomy display that is 3.7 inches with a 800 x 480 capacitive touch screen, two cameras, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, a 3.55 headphone jack, 3G connectivity and easy access to popular social networking web sites. Individuals can add additional memory to the phone by purchasing a microSD card.
Lenovo is positioning the LePhone as a low end handset but that is not an indictment on the quality of the phone or the specs but its price. The company is new to the market and it might thus be a bit too ambitious to come out with a very expensive phone the first time out. The mobile phone consumer may not yet be familiar with them and thus not willing to throw large sums of money at them. If Lenovo is able to enter the market with a very good phone that is underpriced then they may be able to get the attention of buyers, garner their respect and create a bit of brand loyalty much quicker than if they took the reverse approach and came out with a very expensive phone hoping that the public would buy-in. As it is, with the phone being priced inexpensively, more people will be able to purchase it and if it is a good phone, this could bode very well for the company.
Right now, as mentioned above the phone will be available in China. There are rumors that it will also hit the European market sometime this year but there has been no definitive word concerning any LePhone Deals just yet.
