Stay Connected with the BlackBerry Curve 8520

BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone_360The BlackBerry has long been recognized as one of the best mobile messaging devices in the market. It is also partly responsible for the rise in fame of the QWERTY keyboard which has now become a regular fixture in a majority of business-catered Smartphones in the market today. Now that RIM has released an entry level QWERTY-equipped BlackBerry, does it have what it takes to live up to these extremely high standards? Here’s our take on the new BlackBerry Curve 8520.

Mobile Messaging Made Easy

Much like its predecessors, the Curve 8520 is also equipped with a myriad of mobile messaging options. Aside from the usual SMS and MMS options, also on board the device is the ever-present BlackBerry PIN messaging application, as well as support for various email accounts. The BlackBerry Curve 8520 will also feature a slew of integrated apps for instant messaging clients including Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live, ICQ, GTalk, and AIM.

First time users will encounter no problems when it comes to setting up email as the Curve 8520 has made it as easy as it gets. Even with email hosts that are rather uncommon, all you’d need to do is to enter your username and password and the device will do the rest.

Data and Connectivity

Although the Blackberry Curve 8520 functions as a quad band device over the GSM network, a major letdown is the lack of 3G support. Users will have to settle for EDGE connectivity as the only other alternative. It is somehow able to make up for the absence of 3G when it comes to Wi-Fi connectivity, but still, nothing beats 3G. The web browser looks like it’s the same one found in previous devices, only with a few minor upgrades. It is a bit faster and rendering has been improved, but it still has some issues in the speed department.
